Ruby is an interdisciplinary artist and creative producer based in the Netherlands. Working under the name Kaam Kari La, she explores her identity as a Surinamese-Hindustani and Indo-Caribbean woman through film, textile, fashion, performance and participatory art. She is a member of the decolonial artistic collective CTRL+ALT+COLLECTIVE.

Her work explores decolonization, diaspora and identity. Through storytelling, collective experiences and cultural exchange, she creates spaces where people can connect through shared histories and learn from each other's cultures and traditions. Her practice is grounded in the belief that past, present and future are interconnected, and that art can strengthen relationships between people as a form of community building that resists the individualism and fragmentation of capitalist systems.

Joy is an essential part of her practice. Through culture, clothing, food and collective experiences, she creates space for people to reconnect with their heritage and take pride in their culture and identity. For Ruby, joy is not the opposite of struggle, but the energy that sustains the ongoing work of social justice and decolonization.
